The Iranian regime is intensifying its control over journalists and political activists who criticize its mismanagement, repression of freedoms, and security agencies' misconduct.

The death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hussein Amir-Abdollahian, and others has highlighted the deteriorating state of Iran's presidential aircraft fleet due to a lack of necessary spare parts.

On the morning of May 20, 2024, the official IRNA news agency announced the death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Abdollahian, and their accompanying delegation in a helicopter crash in East Azerbaijan Province, in the northwest of the country.

Three more Iranian protesters have been sentenced to death, bringing to 17 the number of people condemned to such a penalty in connection with nationwide unrest.
